The thesis has been divided into three main blocks discussing the physical modelling of viruses, the viral self-assembly process, and the mechanical properties of viral capsids. The second part of the thesis Self-assembly of viruses is dedicated to the analysis of the viral self-assembly and the physical ingredient that control this process and the final capsid shape.

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the newly independent countries of Central Asia undertook reforms of their agrarian sectors with varying degrees of speed and depth. In general, the reforms consisted of changes in the nature of land tenure and in the decentralization of irrigation and drainage management. Through these reforms, former state management institutions were abolished leaving an institutional vacuum that presented an opportunity for the development of local-level management institutions.
However, the historical context of the region poses particular challenges that may impede users to capitalize on such opportunities. Water User Associations represent international donor-driven initiatives to introduce equitable, democratic and participative institutions for irrigation and drainage management. There are indications that those informal institutions and traditional modes of cooperation that survived the Soviet era are gaining importance.
This study maps out the various institutions, defined as "rules in use", that farmers employ to manage the irrigation and drainage system in the Ferghana Valley within the context of changing land and water rights.

To model the heating in a FEM model, the damping in the material is measured withDynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis DMTA and is used together with the cyclicamplitude and frequency to calculate the heating term for each element in the FEmodel.
In order to validate the thermal analysis and see the effect of heating on thefatigue properties of the core material, fatigue tests are done at normal testingfrequencies and elevated frequencies with temperature elevations monitored as afunction of time. The predicted heating effect is shown to correlate well with the experimental datawhereas the maximum loading frequency of 40 Hz that could be applied was too lowto give any effect on the fatigue life.
It is also shown that the effect of loadingfrequencies in the order of Hz requires the fatigue amplitude to be lower than thefatigue strength to avoid excessive heating effects. In fact, from a social point of view, this region shows the coexistence of three different kinds of arid lands: The Coquimbo region is especially sensitive to any activities and has not been yet the object of studies to enhance the knowledge of the soil use impact or of the potential climatic variation.

Intimate partner violence IPV is a global public health problem with many negative health consequences. Research has shown that nurses are in a key position to handle IPV though many nurses are unprepared. A lack of IPV education for nursing students has been identified.
A descriptive qualitative study based on data from six semi-structured interviews with Ghanaian nursing students. Interviews were recorded, transcribed and analysed with content analysis. None of the students found IPV acceptable. Students spoke about the gender roles and illuminated the view of the man as superior and that lack of role performance might lead to IPV.
